A year ago, the Aquinnah Wampanoag tribe’s reservation on Martha’s Vineyard seemed like the least likely location for a casino among all the sites that had been suggested by different proponents in Massachusetts.

But the island reservation is looking like a better wager than the mainland casino the tribe has also been pursuing lately – now that voters in Freetown and Lakeville have resoundingly rejected the tribe’s plans for a resort casino development that would have straddled both towns.
