The Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) has formally objected to a plea by the town of Aquinnah, the state and a community group asking the U.S. Supreme Court to hear an appeal in the long-running casino case.

The three groups filed two petitions for certiorari with the Supreme Court in August in a last-ditch attempt to appeal a ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals that favors the tribe.

That panel concluded unanimously last April that the tribe has the right to build a bingo hall on tribal land in the westernmost reaches of the Vineyard.
